Choose how you capture and connect

Start in the web app, download Second for Mac, or install the Chrome extension and CLI. Apple App Store apps and the Obsidian plugin have separate availability limits, listed below.

AI connection availability

Read-and-save checks passed in ChatGPT Web and Claude Web on September 15–16, 2026; Claude Desktop passed a connected read check. These checks cover those workflows, not every host feature. Your host’s account, plan, and connector support determine which connection options you can use. There is no public AI app-directory listing claimed here.

A connector can only save conversation text or file bytes the host supplies. For missing transcripts, selected replies, or originals, use an explicit export or paste. A summary is not a complete transcript. Notion OAuth also depends on service configuration; token-based connection remains available.

Apple silicon, macOS 13+. Keep a local library, capture from the menu bar, and optionally sync your account. Download from the public release mirror; updates use Sparkle. Connected AI needs a network. The direct download does not include the Apple Share extension.

Second for iPhone & iPad

iOS 17+ companion with Inbox, PARA, Search, Assistant, share sheet, widget, and Shortcuts. Pending captures survive offline periods; the connected library needs a network. Builds have been uploaded to Apple, but a public App Store install is not available yet.

Chrome extension

Save a page with a shortcut, capture selected text from the context menu, or save a window’s tabs. Supported pages include extracted text; restricted pages may provide only a URL. Failed saves queue locally for retry. Install from the Chrome Web Store.

Safari extension

Safari capture is bundled with the Apple App Store builds being prepared for Mac, iPhone, and iPad. It is not included in the public direct-download Mac app. There is no public Safari install yet.

CLI — second

Capture URLs and Markdown, triage items, import notes, and export from your terminal. On macOS or Linux: brew install thedevdavid/tap/second. Prebuilt macOS and Linux binaries are also available from the public mirror. Sign in with second login.

Obsidian

The plugin sends new and edited vault notes to Second and writes new Second captures into your vault once; it does not overwrite existing vault files or propagate deletions. Plugin distribution currently requires private repository access. For a public one-time import, use second import obsidian with the CLI.

Apple Notes

Import Apple Notes through the Mac app or run second import apple-notes in the CLI. macOS may request Automation permission. Imported notes keep source links; permanent deletions are not propagated back to Apple Notes.

Notion sync

Connect with an integration token from Second’s Integrations page for sync every 15 minutes, or import pages once without retaining the token. Sync creates excerpts and updates titles and URLs, rather than mirroring full-body edits. Archive propagation is opt-in; permanent deletions are not propagated.

AI apps via MCP

Connect a compatible MCP client to https://2nd.thedevdavid.com/api/mcp. Approve read, save, or organize access and choose the destinations it can use. Search knowledge, save supplied content, and review organization proposals. Manage or revoke access in Second’s Integrations page.

Public API + OAuth 2.1

Use the /api/v1 REST API for capture, retrieval, organization, and export. Create an API token in Settings → API tokens, or use OAuth 2.1 with PKCE in a compatible client. Personal API tokens have broad account access; OAuth connections can use narrower permissions.
